EYFS
Our curriculum centres on learning experiences which provide emergent, play situations where children make sense of things and people around them, investigate the world, form relationships and interactions.
Léman’s Early Years program includes Pre-Kindergarten classes for three year olds and Junior Kindergarten, for four year olds. The program is a vibrant, fun, play-based program that responds to the unique nature of each individual child. Key emphasis is on developing the skills and attitudes they will need both at this level and throughout a lifetime of learning.
We follow the International Early Years Curriculum in Early Years Program, which is firmly rooted in good practice for young children. It was developed with the following core beliefs in mind:
- The overriding purpose of early years education is to help children develop the skills and attitudes they will need at this level and throughout a lifetime of learning.
- Children need an educational experience that does not create artificial boundaries between different aspects of their development.
- Play is an essential part of children’s learning and general development.
The activities undertaken by children in the Early Years help them work towards the subject, personal and international goals of the future International Primary Curriculum (K-5).
Goals of IPC Early Years Academics
At the very heart of the IEYC is a clarity about what children should learn. The learning of children in the Early Years program is described in four (4) key strands:
- Independence and interdependence
- Communicating
- Exploring
- Healthy living
Each strand contains its own appropriate learning outcomes for young children.
We recognize that all children need opportunities to explore, experience and inquire at their own level and dependent upon their stage of development. Our program looks at individual physical, cognitive and social development and through Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) we seek to meet the needs of our students.
