Mr Palmer 曾在中国香港和佛山的国际和双语学校,以及英国本土学校有超过10年的教学经验。他给预备部学生带来了丰富的学术知识,并激发他们对学习的热情。Mr Palmer 拥有出色的学术背景:他拥有利物浦大学的分子与临床药理学硕士学位、利兹大学的生物化学与遗传学学士学位,并获得桑德兰大学的PGCE(教育学专业研究生证书)。凭借这一坚实的基础,他致力于让科学和英语学习变得生动有趣,营造出一个充满好奇与创造力的课堂环境。

Mr Palmer,请问您当初为什么选择加入佛山霍利斯?在这里工作了一段时间,请问您觉得如何?
我早在英国时就知道霍利斯(LEH)学校的名气,我自己也积极寻找能够让我成长和发挥潜力的学校。这两个月的教学工作非常充实,我跟与来自不同背景的学生合作,并得到了友善且富有团队精神的同事们的支持。参与预备部的学院活动和各种校园活动尤其有趣,令我收获颇丰。
Mr Palmer,请问可以分享一下您的教学理念吗?您曾经在不同国家地区的学校任教,如此丰富的经历对您的教学方法有什么影响?
我认为通过各种活动营造有趣和互动的学习体验非常重要。给学生们创造彼此互动的机会,能够促进他们的技能发展,从而丰富他们的学习旅程。我注重学科间的联系,向学生展示每个主题如何影响并促成更广泛的理解。例如,在学习二战时,我们运用学生的研究能力制作事件时间线和海报,突显战争开始时的重要事件。像折纸“喷火战斗机”这样的动手活动也为学习增添了乐趣,这些纸飞机现在正骄傲地悬挂在我教室外面。
在与不同年龄段和文化背景的学生合作的过程中,我锻炼了自己的适应和创新的能力,以应对各种挑战。我热衷于将复杂的学科如科学变得既易懂又有趣。我认识到每个学生的学习方式都是独特的,因此我致力于为每个学生找到最有效的学习方法,无论是听觉讲解还是视觉辅助。
听说您的学生非常喜欢您的课堂,您认为他们最喜欢的地方是什么呢?
我很幸运拥有一群勤奋而热情的学生,他们不仅让我的教学过程充满乐趣,也丰富了课堂体验。我努力设计有趣的课程和难忘的活动,比如罗尔德·达尔日和万圣节,希望我的学生能感受到我在让课堂充满活力和教育上的用心。
六年级是预备部的最后一年,您对今年的班级有什么目标和期望?
我的目标是让学生们为升读中学阶段做好充分且全面准备,确保他们掌握好学习的基本方法和技能,以帮助他们在未来的学术旅程中取得成功。我希望通过培养必要的技能,为他们奠定坚实的基础,使他们能够在更高的教育阶段中应对挑战并蓬勃发展。
课堂之外,您有什么兴趣爱好呢?
我有两个孩子,与他们一起进行互动给我带来了巨大的快乐和满足。此外,我对科学的热爱不仅限于教学;我非常喜欢通过阅读科学文章来了解最前沿的研究和进展。这一兴趣驱使我不断探索和设计创新的科学实验,既可以将其应用于课堂,也可以用于我的科学课外活动。
Mr Palmer 在每节课堂上致力激发学生们的求知欲和好奇心,培养和发展他们的知识和技能。我们期待他继续为学生们带来积极的影响,帮助他们为未来的成功打下坚实的基础。

At the start of this academic year, we welcomed Mr Luke Palmer to our fast-growing LEH Foshan Prep School teaching team as Elm Class teacher.
Mr Luke Palmer
With over a decade of experience across international and bilingual schools in Hong Kong, Foshan, and the UK, Mr Palmer brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for fostering growth in his students. Mr Palmer’s academic background is distinguished: he holds a Master of Philosophy in Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool, a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Leeds, and a PGCE from the University of Sunderland. With this impressive foundation, he’s committed to making science and English engaging for young learners, creating a classroom environment where curiosity and creativity thrive.
Working alongside Mr Lewis, he has been guiding our Year 6 students through their final year in Prep School, preparing them for the exciting journey ahead in secondary education.
To introduce Mr Palmer and gain insights into his teaching philosophy, we had the pleasure of sitting down with him to discuss his career, approach, and aspirations.
Mr Palmer, could you start by sharing what drew you to LEH Foshan, and how your experience has been so far?
Having been aware of LEH's esteemed reputation from the UK, I actively sought educational institutions where I could grow and thrive. The initial two months have been incredibly fulfilling, collaborating with a diverse group of students and being supported by amiable and cooperative colleagues. Engaging in House activities and events within the Prep School has been particularly enjoyable and enriching.
How would you describe your teaching philosophy, and how have your diverse experiences shaped this approach?
I firmly believe in cultivating engaging and enjoyable learning experiences by incorporating a variety of activities. It is crucial to provide students with opportunities to interact with one another, fostering skill development that enhances their educational journey. I emphasise the interconnectedness of subjects, demonstrating how each topic influences and contributes to a broader understanding. For instance, while exploring World War II, we leverage their research skills to craft timelines and posters highlighting pivotal events from the war's outset. Engaging in hands-on activities like crafting origami spitfires adds a layer of fun to the learning process, with these paper planes now soaring proudly outside my classroom.
Having worked with students across various age groups and cultural settings, I have honed my ability to adapt and innovate when faced with diverse challenges. My passion lies in demystifying complex subjects like science, making them not just understandable but also enjoyable for every student. Recognising that each individual learns uniquely, I am dedicated to discovering the most effective learning approach for each student, whether that involves auditory explanations or engaging visual aids.
We’ve heard that your students enjoy learning with you. What do you think they appreciate most?
I consider myself fortunate to have a diligent and enthusiastic class that not only makes teaching enjoyable but also enriches the learning experience. I strive to create engaging lessons and memorable events like Roald Dahl Day and Halloween, hoping that my students find joy in the effort I put into making our classroom experiences vibrant and educational.
As Year 6 is the final year of Prep School, what are your goals for the class this year?
My aim is to equip my students comprehensively for the transition to secondary school, ensuring they grasp the fundamental mechanisms of learning that will serve them well in their academic journey ahead. By instilling in them the necessary skills to excel in their future studies, I aspire to lay a solid foundation that will empower them to navigate and thrive in the challenges of higher education.
Outside of teaching, what keeps you inspired and balanced?
I am a parent to two young children, and engaging in interactive and enjoyable activities with them brings immense joy and fulfilment to my life. Furthermore, my passion for science extends beyond teaching; I find great pleasure in staying abreast of new discoveries and advancements in the field through reading scientific articles. This interest drives me to constantly explore and create innovative science experiments that I can potentially integrate into my lessons or utilise for my science extracurricular activities.
Mr Palmer’s dedication to nurturing curiosity and fostering skill development shines through in every lesson. We are excited to see the positive impact he will continue to have on our students, helping them build a strong foundation for future success.
