全奖学生Elaine:是FCG让我变成“六边形”战士

“真是惊喜又感动。”


在广州斐特思就读一年多后,Elaine首次荣获全额奖学金。


“我想成为一名生物科学家,探索那些尚未被大众熟知的领域。”


Elaine脸上洋溢着温暖的笑容。进入十一年级后,她更加坚定了未来的理想——投身于生物科研事业。


她对生物科学的痴迷,源自童年的启蒙。“我妈妈非常喜欢看书,家里藏书丰富。”Elaine阅读广泛,尤其喜欢动植物相关的书籍。妈妈发现她的这一爱好后,常带她游历植物园与博物馆。Elaine在儿时对于生命奥秘的好奇,如今已升华为矢志不渝的热爱。


在一堂别开生面的鱼类解剖课上,Jennifer老师让同学们亲手解剖鱼。“每一条鱼都是生命的奇迹。”在实践开始之前,Jennifer借助生动的PPT和立体模型为大家展示了鱼类的基本生理构造,从流线型的身体设计到鳃的氧气交换机制,再到心脏如何维系生命循环,她讲解得既详细又生动。


随后,Jennifer老师示范,同学们实践,在解剖过程中直观了解鱼的心脏、肝脏、胃等器官如何协同工作,共同支撑起这个微小的生命系统。在这样的实操中,知识不再是冰冷的文字,而是鲜活的体验。

After studying at FCG for over a year, Elaine was awarded a full scholarship for the first time.


"I aspire to be a bioscientist, exploring fields that are not yet widely known."


A warm smile lights up Elaine's face. As she enters Year 11, her determination to pursue a career in biological research grows stronger.


Her passion for biological sciences was ignited during her childhood. "My mother loves reading, and we have a vast collection of books at home." Elaine is an avid reader, particularly drawn to books about plants and animals. Once her mother discovered this passion, she often took Elaine to botanical gardens and museums. Elaine's curiosity about life's mysteries as a child has now blossomed into an unwavering love.


During a unique fish disdiv class, Ms. Jennifer encouraged students to perform disdivs themselves. "Every fish is a miracle of life." Before beginning, Jennifer used engaging PowerPoint presentations and 3D models to illustrate the basic physiological structures of fish, from their streamlined bodies to the gills' oxygen exchange mechanisms and how the heart sustains the life cycle. Her explanations were both detailed and vivid.



Following her demonstration, students got hands-on experience, gaining a firsthand understanding of how the heart, liver, stomach, and other organs work together to support this small life system. In such practical exercises, knowledge transforms from cold text into vibrant experience.

In her free time, she eagerly delves into books related to the nervous system and brain, such as The Spark of Life: Electricity in the Human Body and Why Geese Don't Get Obese (and We Do), while also previewing AS course content during her IGCSE phase.

Elaine思维逻辑缜密、严谨,在学习上有着自己独特的方法。在吸纳新知时,她惯于构建完整的逻辑链条进行记忆,能够自主归纳不同章节间的关联知识点,通过“知识列车”的拼接方式,将每一节的内容紧密相连,再辅以关键词记忆策略。“这样在温习功课时,会记得更牢固,重拾记忆也比较快。”

Elaine's logical thinking is meticulous and rigorous and has unique study methods. When absorbing new knowledge, she builds complete logical chains for memorisation, independently summarising the connections between different chapters. By constructing a "knowledge train," she links the content of each div closely together and uses keyword memorisation strategies. "This way, when I review, I remember more firmly and can quickly recall information."

在IGCSE阶段,她取得了5个A*,2个A的优异成绩。从IGCSE到AS的过渡中,学科教师、竞赛导师与升学指导老师频繁讨论她的职业规划,帮她理清生物学不同专业之间的区别,在关键决策点上给予建议。


Elaine本学期选择了六门课程,并在老师的帮助下平衡着各学科的学习时间与进度。“我需要考完中文,才能开始学化学,所以Demi老师会针对我的实际情况,专门为我开设一对一的化学辅导,每节课聚焦一个章节,确保我在学期末能赶上同学的进度。”


“学校的老师们不仅在学科上非常专业,还能在课外知识点上给予我很多帮助。”在每日的CCA课外拓展活动课上,Elaine投身于化学与生物的竞赛学习中,为UKCHO(英国化学奥林匹克竞赛)、ASOC(澳大利亚科学奥林匹克竞赛-化学)与IBO(中级生物奥林匹克竞赛)等赛项做准备。“我把课堂上的知识,在竞赛课上继续巩固、深化。”


在IGCSE阶段,她荣获了JCCO(加拿大初级化学奥林匹克竞赛)全国银奖与特别优异奖,以及IBO(中级生物奥林匹克竞赛)的高度表彰奖。

During her IGCSE phase, she achieved excellent results with five A* and two A grades. As she transitioned from IGCSE to AS, subject teachers, competition mentors, and UGO counsellors frequently discussed her career plans, helping her clarify the distinctions between various biology-related majors and offering advice at key decision points.


Elaine chose six subjects this semester, and with her teachers' support, she balances her study time and progress across disciplines. "I need to finish my Chinese exam before I can start chemistry, so Ms Demi has tailored one-on-one chemistry tutoring for me, focusing on one chapter per session to ensure I catch up with my classmates by the end of the term."


"The teachers here are not only highly professional in their subjects but also provide a lot of assistance with extracurricular knowledge." During the daily CCA (Co-Curricular Activities) sessions, Elaine engages in competition preparation for chemistry and biology, getting ready for events like UKCHO (UK Chemistry Olympiad), ASOC (Australian Science Olympiad - Chemistry), and IBO (Intermediate Biology Olympiad). "I continue to reinforce and deepen what I've learned in class during competition sessions."


In her IGCSE phase, she won a national silver medal and a special excellence award in the JCCO (Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad) and received a high commendation in the IBO (Intermediate Biology Olympiad).

Achieving an IELTS Score of 7.5: A Natural Outcome of Hard Work



今年暑假,Elaine首战雅思,便获得了听力9分,总分7.5的高分。


 “学校营造的英语语言环境起到了至关重要的作用。”


在英文阅读课上,老师引领Elaine深入研读莎士比亚的《麦克白》,采用的是19世纪的珍贵文献,涉及艰深的古英语词汇,老师逐段诵读并细致解析。Elaine注意到,尽管这些词汇对她而言比较陌生,但是通过老师的讲解,她开始能够捕捉到那些古老文字背后的情感。


除了英文与双语课程的学习,Elaine在日常生活中几乎与同学们全程用英语交流,磨练生活化的口语表达能力。此外,她频繁地与外籍教师Cate展开深度对话,探讨广泛的社会话题。“每周五亦是学校的英语日,全部师生都必须使用英文沟通,我们自然而然地用英语进行交流。”

This summer, Elaine took her first IELTS exam, scoring a remarkable 9 in listening and an overall score of 7.5.

"The English language environment at school has played a crucial role."


In her English literature class, the teacher guided Elaine in deeply studying Shakespeare's Macbeth, using rare 19th-century texts involving complex Old English vocabulary. The teacher read and analysed the text paragraph by paragraph. Elaine noticed that although these words were unfamiliar to her, she began to grasp the emotions behind the ancient language through the teacher's explanations.


In addition to her English and bilingual courses, Elaine communicates almost exclusively in English with her classmates, honing her spoken language skills. Furthermore, she frequently engages in deep conversations with foreign teacher Cate about various social topics. "Every Friday is English Day at school when all teachers and students must communicate in English, so we naturally converse in English."

敢于走出舒适区,不断挑战自己,也是Elaine的特质。在上学期的语言文化节与本学期的开学典礼上,Elaine还担任了英语主持人的角色。


“将英语视为交流的工具,当它在日常生活中被频繁使用时,提升便是水到渠成的事。”

Another of her defining traits is Elaine's willingness to step outside her comfort zone and continuously challenge herself. During last semester's Language and Culture Festival and this semester's opening ceremony, she took on the role of English host. "I see English as a tool for communication, and when it's used frequently in daily life, improvement becomes a natural progression."

Finding Balance Between Learning and Activities at FCG



“我非常喜欢学校的一点便是:活动与学习时间的均衡分配。”


在课外拓展活动课和晚自习时间,Elaine会与同学们学习舞蹈、练习马术、讨论未来想做的事。


“我第一次跳舞是在音乐节上。”毫无舞蹈基础的Elaine,为了节目的完美呈现,与同学们一道细抠动作、勤练舞步。“我从未尝试过跳舞,那次表演让我突破了内心的恐惧,在同学们的鼓励下,我也深刻体会到了团队合作的重要性。”


“马术课也是入学后开始接触的,它与其他运动都不同,不仅需要与马匹建立默契,还要求对单一动作进行长期训练。”在马术运动中,Elaine锤炼着自己的毅力。

"One aspect I truly love about the school is the balanced allocation of time between activities and learning."


During extracurricular activities and evening study sessions, Elaine participates in dance, practices equestrian skills, and discusses future aspirations with her classmates.


"I first danced at a music festival." With no prior dance experience, Elaine worked tirelessly with her classmates to perfect their routines. "I had never tried dancing before, and that performance helped me overcome my inner fears. With the encouragement of my peers, I also learned the importance of teamwork."


"Equestrian lessons were another new experience for me; they differ from other sports as they require building rapport with the horse and involve long-term training of specific movements." Through equestrian sports, Elaine is honing her perseverance.
