发布时间:2024-11-08 08:16

MIS is a community of exploration and openness, using open teaching methods and prioritizing the development of students' abilities. With the IB mindset, MIS students are knowledgeable and well-versed in communication and self-reflection, placing importance on their character development along with their academic pursuits. They approach learning with curiosity and a spirit of inquiry, following social etiquette and possessing the ability to collaborate with others. MIS students maintain individualized development in their learning processes, exploring the essence of things, reasoning, and substantiating arguments, and deepening their knowledge through various forms of discovery, investigation, and research methods. They apply their academic knowledge to practical situations; MIS students' learning process is a self-exploration and self-actualization process.

G1: IB Dance Class

G1 children performed exceptionally well in their dance class. Every child actively participated in the dance activities. Their interest and enthusiasm for dance were very high. They showed a great deal of positivity in the class. They not only made an effort to imitate the dance movements but also demonstrated good coordination with the rhythm of the music.

G2: IB UOI Class

In G2 class, we began a new inquiry unit themed around exploring how family history has made us the people we are today. We have already done research on our inspiring grandparents who teach us how to be respectful to those older than us and as we learned in our last unit of inquiry they care for us and spend lots of time with us doing cool things.

Over the past week, our G3-5 students have made delightful progress in their French studies, and I am thrilled to share the learning outcomes from the Lion and Eagle classes with you. In the Lion class, we learned the song Mes petites mains, which not only brought joy to our lessons but also helped the children learn in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

In the Eagle class, our lessons were equally engaging. We discussed the difference between "sweet" and "salty," and differentiated between "dishes" and "desserts." The students learned to express their food preferences, such as whether they "kind of like," "really like," or "don't like at all" a particular dish, and how to describe a dish as "a little sweet," "very sweet," or "not sweet at all."

G4: IB PE Class

In G4 PE class, we delved into the fundamental skills of American football, giving students a deeper understanding of the sport. We focused on the correct arm and hand positions for overhand passing, as well as hand placement for receiving the ball. Additionally, we worked on improving the students' kicking (punting) techniques, which require precise footwork and appropriate ball landing spots.

G5: IB Art Class

In G5 class filled with creativity and science, our students embarked on a challenging project ― designing a cyborg mask. This project aimed to stimulate their design thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the entire process carefully structured in a step-by-step format.

G6: Music Class

In G6 music lesson, students had the opportunity to explore various music genres, including classical, pop, and jazz, before transitioning into focused group practice with their instruments. We culminated the session with an ensemble rehearsal, bringing all divs together for a tutti performance.

G7: PE / Dance Class

Over the past few weeks, our G7 students have been learning a vibrant and challenging dance called We Rock. This dance is unique in style and rich in detailed movements, significantly different from the dances we have learned before. Its rapid rhythm has been a considerable challenge for the students.

In PE class, our students focused on technical training for pickleball. They learned the correct grip, control of the direction and strength of the ball, and other key skills, and engaged in serving, receiving, and combination practices. These training sessions helped the students improve their skills and enhance their coordination and reaction abilities in practice.

G8: Library Class

Over the past few weeks, our G8 students have embarked on a journey of knowledge and wisdom in the library course. By reading social science books such as Wolf Totem, World History, and Chinese History, the students have not only broadened their horizons and gained a deep understanding of rich historical and cultural knowledge but also accumulated valuable insights, enhancing their thinking abilities.

Monday Noon Assembly

Date: October 28th

Bilingual Hosted by Curie House

▲Announcement of the Top Three Students in the House's Weekly Individual Points Standings

Principal Speech by Dr. Rath

Date: October 28th

I would like to share with you a profound story titled "No Room for a Sneeze." This is not just a folk tale; it is an allegory that contains deep wisdom and insights. The story aligns with the IB Learner Profile attributes of "Thinkers," "Reflective," and "Caring," which are essential virtues we need to cultivate on our journey of growth.

In the story, a family was troubled by their cramped living space and sought advice from a wise man. The wise man's advice initially seemed to make things worse, but ultimately, the family realized that by identifying and addressing problems, their house was much more spacious than they thought, and their life was filled with happiness and joy. This story teaches us that contentment is the source of happiness and we should be grateful for everything we have. Sometimes, unexpected joy and satisfaction can be gained by reducing unnecessary mental friction and desires, cutting down on unhealthy food, and adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Reflection plays an indispensable role in our learning and life. Just as the family in the story realized their happiness after experiencing chaos and challenges, I encourage everyone to take time at the end of the day to review their learning experiences, interpersonal relationships, and personal growth through a journal, group discussions, or personal reflection. Such habits will help us better understand ourselves and clarify our direction for growth.

The family in the story initially only focused on their own need and neglected the happiness they already had. I hope MIS students can care for the needs of others, whether in the classroom or in the community. By participating in house and student government activities, you can gain a deeper understanding of how your actions influence others and learn to care for others, fostering the attribute of caring.

Of course, I must emphasize that maintaining reading is an important way to broaden our horizons, obtain knowledge, and develop empathy. We encourage everyone to read widely, including literary works, historical books, and scientific magazines. Through reading, you can not only understand diverse cultures and perspectives but also transcend immediate difficulties to think about a broader future.
