Dear teachers and schoolmate,
Good morning! The theme of my speech is "World Thrift Day."
Thrift is a good habit that many countries around the world encourage. Today,I would like to share with you a true story from China.
In China, there is an activity called the "Clean Plate Campaign." It is meant to reduce food waste. It encourages us to only take as much food as we can finish, and to make sure we don't leave any food on our plates. Many restaurants also take part, reminding customers not to waste food and to order only what they can eat. Many school cafeterias are also involved, encouraging students to finish all the food on their plates. This campaign not only reduces a lot of food waste, but also helps everyone cherish food more and protect the environment.
This kind of story happens in many places around the world. It teaches us that thrift is not just about saving things, but also about helping others.
Classmates, we can start with small actions in our daily lives to make saving and being thrifty a good habit. For example, when we eat, we can follow the “Clean Plate Campaign” and not waste even a single grain of food. When it comes to using water, we should turn off the tap while washing our hands or brushing our teeth, not leaving it running for too long. At home, we can collect water from washing clothes or vegetables and reuse it. This saves water and lowers the water bill. Similarly, using electricity is very important. We should turn off lights, unplug devices we’re not using, and adjust the air conditioner’s temperature. These small habits help save electricity, conserve energy, and protect the environment. Over time, these little actions will make a big difference for the environment and others.
Thrift is not just about saving for ourselves; it helps other people and the earth. Let’s start today by practicing thrift, using every resource wisely, and helping make the world better for everyone!
That’s the end of my speech. Thank you!
