四年级:探索标志与符号,开启沟通密码

Grade 4: Exploring Signs and Symbols, Unlocking the Code of Communication

Signs and symbols are essential in communication. They go beyond language barriers. For instance, a stop sign instantly conveys the message to halt. Emojis add emotional context in digital chats. Brand logos represent a company's identity. These examples show how they facilitate understanding among people. The students of grade 4 embarked on an exploration journey around this theme, delving into how signs and symbols form the basis of communication and understanding the relationships among function, form, and connection.The students of grade 4 embarked on an interesting and intelligent exploration journey around the theme of "Exploring Signs and Symbols as Communication Tools" in the first unit. Under the guidance of the theme "How We Express Ourselves", the students explored in depth how signs and symbols form the solid foundation of the human communication system and deeply understood the subtle relationships among function, form, and connection.



学生们积极投身于本地社区,细致观察并热烈探讨各种标志和符号。们深入探究这些视觉元素如何精准传递信息、有效发挥功能,从而开启了对视觉沟通的初步认知。

At the beginning of the learning journey, the students actively engaged in the local community, carefully observing and enthusiastically discussing various signs and symbols. They probed into how these visual elements accurately convey information and effectively play their functions, thus initiating the preliminary cognition of visual communication. The subsequent code-breaking activity further stimulated their enthusiasm for exploration. By interpreting different symbols, they deeply realized the wonderful power of visual language in connecting people and conveying meaning in different contexts.

Subsequently, the students worked in groups to give full play to their creativity and design their own symbols. They skillfully applied the learned knowledge to create unique visual works and further comprehend the close fit between symbol form and function. In the summative assessment stage, the students' achievements were remarkable. They collaborated to build a city model and meticulously designed various signs, including those for community helpers, businesses, traffic signs, and landmarks, cleverly applying design and communication skills to practical scenarios. In addition, through the drama performance of the stories of community helpers, they vividly demonstrated the crucial role of symbols in daily interactions and public services, fully highlighting the abilities of being communicative, knowledgeable, and reflective in the IB learner profile.

Moreover, the students joined hands with their parents to jointly design unique family logos, closely linking the concept of symbols with personal identity and family values and deeply feeling the personal significance of symbols. Finally, a video documenting the learning journey was created, witnessing every step of the students' growth from exploration to the final presentation and allowing them to reflect in depth. Through this unit, the students not only deeply understood the powerful force of symbols and the positive shaping of visual communication on human interaction but also cultivated critical thinking, creativity, and cooperation skills that are transferable, laying a solid foundation for understanding global communication and effectively expressing themselves.




五年级:时尚创意盛宴,诠释自我表达

Grade 5: A Fashionable and Creative Feast, Interpreting Self-Expression


IEP PYP 五年级的探究成果展宛如一场时尚与创意的华丽盛典。同学们以 “自我表达方式” 为核心展开探究,将时尚作为独特的语言载体,以心灵为灵动的画笔,运用独特的创意和巧妙的构思打造出一件件令人瞩目的作品。

The inquiry achievement exhibition of grade 5 in IEP PYP was like a magnificent gala of fashion and creativity. The students centered on "Self-Expression Methods" to conduct exploration, using fashion as a unique language carrier and the heart as a vivid brush, creating remarkable works with unique creativity and ingenious ideas.



在制作过程中,同学们充分利用报纸、塑料袋、旧衣物、树叶等多样资源,将对时尚的独到理解融入其中。每一套服装都是他们创意的璀璨结晶,尽管面临诸多挑战,但他们凭借坚韧不拔的毅力学会了剪裁、缝制等生活技能,在一针一线中细细品味成长的喜悦。

During the production process, the students made full use of various resources such as newspapers, plastic bags, old clothes, and leaves, integrating their unique understanding of fashion into them. Each set of clothing was a brilliant crystallization of their creativity. Despite facing numerous challenges, they learned life skills such as cutting and sewing with perseverance, savoring the joy of growth in every stitch.

On the exhibition day, the children walked onto the stage with confidence, showing their works full of creativity and inspiration. Some works conveyed a deep love and active appeal for nature, some expressed the cherishment and inheritance of traditional culture, and others boldly demonstrated the imagination and exploration of the future. Each work seemed to be telling a unique story, the sincere voice of the children to the world. The parents were also deeply touched by the children's creativity and felt extremely proud of their efforts and wonderful expressions.
