At Shekou International School, our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is pivotal in supporting our multilingual learners in Primary and Secondary classrooms. We believe that language is not only a tool for communication but also a pathway to academic success and personal growth. Our EAL program ensures that all multilingual learners have the resources and support they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

One of the key components of our EAL program is the close collaboration between our English language specialists (EAL teachers) and classroom teachers. We integrate language development with academic content through co-planning and co-teaching, providing tailored support that meets each student's unique needs. This collaborative model allows us to differentiate instruction, scaffold complex tasks, and create a classroom environment where students can engage meaningfully with language and content. This co-teaching approach benefits English learners and enriches all students' learning experience.

Furthermore, our commitment to data-driven instruction allows us to respond dynamically to our students' evolving needs. We develop personalised support strategies by analysing multiple data points, including language proficiency assessments and classroom performance. This ensures that we always meet our learners where they are, helping them make meaningful progress toward their academic and language goals.

EAL Classroom Learning

Assessment is another critical area of collaboration. EAL and content teachers regularly evaluate student progress, adapting lessons to provide targeted support and celebrate each student's growth. Through this process, we ensure that multilingual learners build the confidence and language skills they need to succeed academically and socially.

EAL Classroom Learning

At SIS, our EAL program is committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing, and equitable learning environment where all students can achieve their full potential.
