How is BIBS in your view?
My first impression is the energy of the students. They are very active and they have a deep interest and curiosity in learning. I could feel their energy and it convinced me that we have the potential to help these students achieve different life goals around the world.
BIBS has a very good educational environment and first-class educators. The resources, environment, and conditions are there to help students explore the world, understand and try to solve real-world problems. I look forward to working with my new colleagues.
What does future education mean to you?
To me, the future of education requires redefining the process of learning. We need to move from a teacher-centered learning environment to a student-centered learning environment where students are in charge of learning.
I believe every student has unique talents, and it's our job to discover and nurture those talents. The education of the future should be personalized, with an in-depth understanding of each student's interests, passions and issues, creating a journey for them to explore their interests and potential to help them make a difference in the world.
In my opinion, education is not only to help students become smart, but also to give them wisdom. We want them to work with their peers to design creative solutions that make their communities and the world a better place.
How do you plan to implement the future education concepts here at BIBS?
We'll start with teacher education programs to make sure teachers understand and practice these ideas.
We will also set up innovation LABS at each campus to encourage students to participate in a variety of innovative projects, such as smart agriculture and aerospace mobility projects. Help them get interested in the latest research projects and think about solutions, designing new environments, new conditions and new solutions that ultimately make a real impact on the real world.
As one of the BIBS CoFE projects, Global Impact will continue to organize experiential learning and community problem solving trips for young students, traveling to Africa, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places, supporting local students and co-writing papers with students from Harvard, MIT, and Berkeley.
In short, we not only want students to achieve good results in basic subjects such as math and English, but also convert more practical problems into classroom projects, so that students will explore, cooperate and communicate together in a team, so that they have the "6C" basic ability for the future: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking, Compassion, and Commitment.
Any advice for the BIBS students and parents?
My advice for the students is to become autonomous and independent learners. Learning is a lifelong journey, and we hope the BIBS students will be self-driven, self-managed, able to adapt to the uncertain changes of the future, sensitive and clear in their awareness of problems, and creative in designing solutions.
It is important for parents to support their children's spirit of independent thinking and exploration. Students are encouraged to engage in a wide range of activities that stimulate their passion, develop big picture thinking, and develop big dreams of making a difference. Parents and schools should be partners, working together to support the child's growth and development.
What are your expectations for the future of BIBS?
I have a lot of faith for the future of BIBS. I have the confidence that together we can create an innovative educational environment that will help students develop into future leaders with a global perspective. I look forward to seeing our students shine on the world stage and bring positive change to society.
Epilogue
Through this interview, we can feel Dr. Paul Kim's deep emotion for education and enthusiasm for the future. His joining will undoubtedly bring new vitality and innovation to BIBS.
Under his leadership, the BIBS CoFE will aim to produce more students with creativity, empathy and practical problem solving skills to prepare them for the world of tomorrow.
