On September 20th, we had the honor of inviting our esteemed Principal, Christopher Hoddinott, to deliver a meaningful "Typhoon Safety Assembly" seminar for all our teachers and students. This lecture not only enhanced our understanding of typhoons as natural disasters but also provided us with valuable safety knowledge.

01

Highlights of the Seminar

1. Scientific Explanation of Typhoons: The seminar started with the definition of typhoons, explaining the conditions, characteristics, and impact of typhoons on human society.

2. Classification and Impact of Typhoons: Through the Saffir-Simpson Typhoon Wind Scale, we learned about the potential damage levels of different typhoon categories.

3. Emphasis on Safety Rules: The principal specially emphasized safety rules during typhoons, including staying indoors, closing windows, and keeping communication devices charged.

4. Family Emergency Preparation: The seminar also guided how to prepare a family emergency kit, including essential items like food and water, a first aid kit, flashlights, etc.

5. Real-time Information Acquisition: Parents and students were reminded to get the latest information through Kunshan weather alerts and to familiarize themselves with all evacuation routes.

What We Learned

· A typhoon is a huge, rapidly rotating storm that officially forms when wind speeds reach 120 kilometers per hour.

· Typhoons usually last for over a week, moving at a speed of 10-20 miles per hour.

· The typhoon's eye is the center of the storm, which is the calmest part.

· The formation of typhoons requires heat and energy from warm ocean waters.

· The rise in global air and water temperatures is leading to more frequent and severe typhoons.

Our Actions

We encourage each parent to work with their children to develop a family typhoon emergency plan for safety assurance. And we will regularly host similar safety education activities to enhance the emergency response capabilities of CISK community members.

Heartfelt thanks go to Principal Christopher Hoddinott for his excellent lecture and to every enthusiastic participant. Let us move forward together, building a sturdy safety barrier to provide the strongest protection for every member of the CISK community.
