Music Exchange in Hong Kong
On 3 May 2024, the choir and band of ASJ (Dongguan) went to Hong Kong to participate in a memorable music exchange activity at the kind invitation of our sister school, Fanling Kau Yan College. This inter-school collaboration activity aimed to promote friendship and the exchange of music between the two schools and showcase the student's talents and teamwork spirit.
Before the official exchange, the students had rehearsed their performances several times and tried their best to create the perfect stage effect. The students also made a warm-up video to express their excitement for the event, which allowed the sister school students to get to know our students better.
The theme of Kau Yan College's annual concert is "In Walk with Family", which aims to show the emotional bond between people and families through music, dance, drama, sand painting, etc. The concept of "family" extends from the school to the community, and even to the country and the world, with a variety of performances that allowed students to feel the warmth of family and friendship in a joyful artistic atmosphere.
Teachers and students from ASJ (Dongguan) also chose two songs in line with the theme - "Tomorrow will be better" and "We are the world" - to convey the meaning of "family, unity and love". The students' singing was not only a great success, but also resonated with the audience, conveying the theme and making people realise that only by uniting together can we create a more harmonious world.
Through this event, the friendship between ASJ (Dongguan) and Fanling Kau Yan College has been further deepened, and teachers and students have gained unforgettable and valuable experiences. It is believed that in the future, the collaboration and exchanges between the two schools will be closer, creating more learning and exchange opportunities for the students.
Student Reflections
"This is the first time I have represented our school on an exchange trip and I feel honoured to have done so because this activity has given me experience of being on stage and improved my teamwork skills. In addition, this trip to Hong Kong allowed me to learn about two new musical instruments - handchime and handbell. I had never heard of them before. The sound they made was very clear and beautiful. However, the most impressive thing I remembered was their orchestra, which is also the course we are currently studying, and being able to witness a live version of it gave me a deeper understanding of these different instruments.“

"Taking part in this exchange activity gave me the courage to go on stage. And I was very impressed by the hospitality of our sister school and their handchime and handbell performances, which were very new to me. Despite a few hiccups during the trip, the positive attitude of the teachers and classmates was worth learning from, and the dedication and solidarity of the team helped us to put on a good show in the end.“
“1. 参加此次交流活动让我获得了上台的勇气,以及勇于正面面对观众;
2. 姊妹学校热情地接待、准备周到的安排令我印象深刻,十分感谢他们的邀请和安排;
3. 姊妹学校有十分成熟的乐团和舞团,颇具特色的手铃队及手钟队表演也让我大开眼界;

"This was my first visit to a school in Hong Kong and the prayer session before the performance taught me about the beliefs of this school and how we should all respect the beliefs of others. The sister school prepared a sumptuous lunch and souvenirs for us, and we also brought them specialities from Dongguan, which taught me that you can't go empty-handed as a guest, you have to be polite. Of course, I was most impressed by the various kinds of performance teams from the sister schools, of which sand painting was the most special to me. In addition, the moment the curtain was drawn back, I heard the cheers from the audience, which made me feel the charm of the stage as well!"
